One Brick at a Time

There are days when I look at everything I want to accomplish, and honestly… it can feel impossible.

Write another song.

Create another piece of artwork.

Finish another chapter.

Take care of Ricky.

Answer messages.

Work on the store.

Cook dinner.

Mow the grass.

Figure out taxes.

Sleep… maybe.

Sometimes the mountain looks so big that your brain quietly whispers,

“Why even start?”

I’ve learned not to listen to that voice anymore.

Instead, I think about a brick.

If you’ve ever watched a mason build a beautiful wall, you’ll notice something interesting.

They never stand there staring at the finished wall.

They don’t pick up twenty bricks at once.

They don’t panic because there are still hundreds left.

They simply pick up one.

Place it carefully.

Make sure it’s straight.

Then they reach for the next one.

That’s it.

One brick.

Then another.

Life works the same way.

None of us build a marriage in a day.

Or a business.

Or a career.

Or a family.

Or a dream.

We build them one decision…

one conversation…

one act of kindness…

one lesson…

one brick at a time.

People sometimes ask how I’ve managed to keep building while caring for Ricky, writing music, creating artwork, starting a business, and somehow still finding reasons to laugh.

The answer isn’t because I’m extraordinary.

It’s because I stopped worrying about the whole wall.

I only worry about today’s brick.

Today’s brick might be writing one verse.

Uploading one product.

Learning one new thing.

Helping Ricky with everything he needs.

Or simply choosing not to quit.

Every brick matters.

Even the ones nobody ever sees.

One day, someone will walk past the finished building and admire it.

They’ll see the beautiful wall.

They won’t notice the thousands of ordinary bricks that made it possible.

But you’ll know.

You’ll remember the days when you wondered if you’d ever finish.

You’ll remember placing one more brick when you were tired.

One more when life felt unfair.

One more when nobody was watching.

And then one day…

you’ll step back…

and realize you didn’t just build a wall.

You built a life.

One brick at a time.
