Meet the Storyteller

Ricky Dean and I

If you’re here, welcome.

Before we dive into the stories behind the songs, the merchandise, the memories, and the people who inspire them, I thought it might be a good idea to tell you a little about the person behind Amplified Imagination Studios.

My name is Michelle Mullins, and stories have always mattered to me.

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing piano when I was eight years old and have been singing for even longer. Over the years, I’ve worked in and around the music industry in various ways, watched talented artists pursue their dreams, and learned that behind every song is a story waiting to be told.

Life, however, has a way of teaching lessons that no classroom, stage, or recording studio ever could.

Today, my most important role is being a caregiver to my husband, Ricky Dean. He’s a veteran who served our country in the Navy. He went on to be a state trooper in his (mostly) home state of Ohio. He’s played banjo since he was 8 years old and on his first record at the young age of 9 with a family gospel band. He’s played acoustic guitar since he was around 11 or 12. He left Ohio in the early to mid 80’s to move to Nashville, TN to pursue his dream of music. He succeeded at that dream and became a world champion guitar player and banjo player - - playing for legends such as Paul Simon (on the Jerry Lewis Telethon), Wayne Newton, the Mamas and the Papa’s, Shania Twain, Paul Overstreet and too many others to name. However, the man he’s known his entire life - - the musician, the physically active former law enforcement officer and veteran, not to mention the man his Creator made that has always been independent and prideful - - now faced a life changed dramatically after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis in May of 2022. He hasn’t walked in five years and he hasn’t played his instruments in eight. He needs my assistance to move, stand, sit, make every meal, help get dressed and to do all his personals. I’m his legs, feet, hands and arms. I’m his motivator, encourager, emotional support, mental support, spiritual support, soundboard, and, sometimes, shoulder to cry on. The man who once stood on stages and amazed audiences, bringing 30,000 people to their feet, was now faced with challenges most people never see. He now grieved the man he had always been, the only man he identified as. But so have I - - not because the capability of walking is what made me fall in love with him, but to watch your husband grieve the loss of his own life, is a death I never even knew existed. Caring for him has changed me in ways I never expected. It’s made me stronger, not weaker. It’s made me more selfless, less selfish. It’s taught me - - and him - - who has truly loved us through life, and who hasn’t. It has taught me that we are capable of so much more than we think. It has grown my backbone and thrown away the throw rug. It has deepened my compassion, strengthened my faith in the human spirit, and reminded me daily that every person is carrying a story we know nothing about.

Caregiving isn’t new to me. Throughout my life, I’ve found myself helping others, listening to their stories, walking beside them through difficult seasons, up to and including death, celebrating victories, and sometimes simply being present when they needed someone to care.

In 2019, I went back to school to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Graphic design. However, because Ricky continued to decline, become weaker and weaker, and even falling eight times, I wasn’t able to finish; Not to mention, we were in the heart of the Covid years. I now had to become self-employed for the flexible schedule in order to come home every 3-4 hours to stand him up and give him a break from sitting. I also became the sole bread-winner, working enough to make-up for the lost income he brought home. He was denied disability and that just put more burden on me than anyone could imagine. Therefore, I had to drop out of school and settle for a certification in Graphic Design.

Those experiences have shaped everything I create.

The truth is, I’ve never been interested in surface-level conversations. I don’t like small-talk - - hate it, actually - -  but love hearing what makes people laugh until they cry. I love hearing about the moments that changed their lives. I love the stories about first loves, lifelong friendships, family traditions, unexpected miracles, hard losses, funny memories, second chances, and the people we’ll never forget.

Every person has a story.

Some are joyful.

Some are heartbreaking.

Most are a little bit of both.

That’s what you’ll find here. No religion. No politics. Just human stories from human beings. Stories that changed their lives or even their perspectives and beliefs.

Some posts will be about the inspiration behind songs I’ve written and produced. Some will be about people who have touched my life. Some will make you laugh. Some may make you cry. A few might do both at the same time.

And that’s okay.

Life is like that.

One of the reasons I started Amplified Imagination Studios is because I know there are people carrying beautiful stories who don’t necessarily have the tools, time, experience, or emotional distance to turn those stories into songs, tributes, gifts, or keepsakes themselves.

Sometimes you’re too close to the story.

Sometimes you’re too overwhelmed by it.

Sometimes you simply don’t know where to begin.

That’s where I hope I can help.

Whether it’s through music, custom projects, personalized gifts, or simply listening, my goal has always been the same: to help people feel seen, heard, remembered, appreciated, and loved.

If something I create makes you laugh a little harder, cry a little easier, remember someone special, feel a little less alone, or smile when you needed it most, then I’ve accomplished exactly what I set out to do.

So welcome to The Story Behind the Story.

I’m glad you’re here.

Now let’s tell some stories.
